Beltloader Parking Brake

Project Description:
The Textron TUG 660E Belt Loader is a self-propelled, electrically driven vehicle designed to lift cargo and luggage to aircraft cargo bays with its adjustable conveyor belt. The TUG 660E Belt Loader weighs approximately 8,000 pounds and is capable of speeds up to 15 mph. Its current parking brake (PB) system requires significant improvement. The current unit is costly, provides insufficient torque, and presents excessive complexity during installation and maintenance. These challenges impede the advancement of Textron’s electric drive train product line. Our team proposes a disc brake solution that mounts directly on the motor drive shaft. The proposed system features motor-actuated calipers for fully electric brake engagement and disengagement, along with a manual override for operator-controlled tow-mode functionality.
