Project Description:
This project aims to design a sutureless valve replacement for patients with severe mitral annular calcification, which will reduce operating times during open heart surgery and improve patient outcomes. We’ve developed a prototype with a shape memory alloy (nitinol) frame and flexible polymer bumper, a novel deployment tool, and a 10-foot pressure testing rig with exchangeable calcification inserts.
