An Active Wearable System for Real-Time Joint Injury and Rehabilitation Monitoring
- Program: Biomedical Engineering
- Course: EN.580.571 Honors Instrumentation
- Year: 2026
Project Description:
SubluxSense is an innovative wearable system designed to enable real-time monitoring of joint subluxation injuries and rehabilitation progress. The project addresses a major gap in current rehabilitation practices, which are often episodic, subjective, and lack continuous feedback. Our system integrates multimodal sensing, including muscle activity (EMG), joint motion (IMU), temperature, and bioimpedance, into a compact wearable device. The data is wirelessly transmitted to an external platform, where AI-driven analytics can provide actionable insights for clinicians and athletes.
The device features a skin-contact interface with embedded sensors, low-power electronics, and secure data transmission. These factors help ensure a continuous and user-friendly operation. SubluxSense enables personalized rehabilitation by tracking recovery metrics, detecting reinjury risks, and supporting return-to-play decisions. By combining sensing, analytics, and clinical integration, the system improves joint injury outcomes and reduces recovery time. Overall, SubluxSense represents a scalable, data-driven solution for modern musculoskeletal care.
