EMIra Shield: Advancing Low-Field MRI Systems

Project Description:

Over 90% of the world’s population lacks access to MRI, largely due to the high operational and maintenance costs of traditional high-field systems. Low-field MRI (LF MRI) offers a portable, lower-cost alternative, but its weaker signal and use in unshielded environments make it highly susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI), degrading signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and image quality.
To address this gap, clinicians need a practical, portable shielding solution. EMIra Shield is a deployable, easily integrated enclosure that surrounds the LF MRI and patient to attenuate environmental EMI. By improving SNR while maintaining clinical access and patient comfort, EMIra Shield enhances diagnostic reliability in resource-limited settings and supports the broader adoption of LF MRI globally.
