- Program: Center for Leadership Education
- Course: EN.663.657 Innovation and Design
- Year: 2026
Project Description:
Echo Shield is a proactive financial video risk identification platform and app for investors. It continuously scans high-risk, non-authoritative financial video content, identifies videos that may be AI-generated or manipulated, and further analyzes their potential impact on stocks and other financial assets. The system then presents the results to users through risk alerts and structured analysis, helping them judge more quickly whether the information is credible and whether it may affect their investment decisions. By supporting both platform-based and mobile access, Echo Shield can fit more naturally into the real-time information and rapid decision-making environments in which investors operate.

Presenting the official pitch poster for Echo Shield, developed at the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. Built alongside team members Qiyu, Changhao, and Rong, this B2C platform is designed specifically for active short-term retail investors and cryptocurrency traders. Rather than just flagging deepfakes, Echo Shield provides clear origin analysis for market anomalies, empowering day traders to make informed decisions in volatile environments. All of this is delivered through a freemium SaaS model with a highly accessible $10 initial monthly subscription.

Project Video
In today’s market, the rapid spread of a single fake video can easily trigger abnormal market volatility and panic selling among investors; by the time the truth comes to light, economic losses have often already been incurred [00:09]. According to a report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), up to 90% of video content on the internet will be AI-generated by 2026, making the verification of financial information particularly urgent.
Echo Shield is dedicated to providing real-time security defense mechanisms. The system not only rapidly identifies malicious videos but, more importantly, provides clear traceability analysis for market volatility. By accurately identifying AI-generated traces that are difficult to detect with the naked eye, it can intercept misinformation before it actually causes portfolio losses, ensuring that investors’ profits are built on accurate information.
The project is strictly positioned in the B2C market, specifically serving active short-term retail investors and cryptocurrency traders, and plans to adopt a low-barrier $10 initial monthly subscription model. The global deepfake technology industry is currently valued at approximately $11 billion, with the “market manipulation prevention” segment accounting for 18% and the consumer-facing segment accounting for 9%, providing Echo Shield with a precise initial market entry point valued at approximately $200 million.
Project Whitepaper
The Problem: The proliferation of hyper-realistic AI deepfakes is creating artificial volatility in financial markets. Active, short-term retail and crypto traders are highly vulnerable to making poor, split-second decisions based on these unverified viral videos.
The Solution: Echo Shield acts as a real-time verification layer that identifies AI-generated financial misinformation. It uses a “Dual-Track Funnel Architecture” that filters media for market relevance, performs rapid lightweight screening, and escalates high-risk content for deep multimodal verification.
Target Market: The initial target segment focuses on U.S.-based, mobile-active retail investors who rely on social media. The goal is to capture 2% to 5% of this base, representing roughly 550,000 to 1.3 million core users.
Business Model: The company operates on a freemium SaaS model. It offers basic verification for free, with a premium subscription priced at $9.90 per month for advanced analysis and real-time alerts.
Financial Projections: Echo Shield requires an estimated $17,600 in funding for its first year to support product validation, buildout, and baseline operations. The team aims for cash-flow break-even within 18 to 24 months.
The Team: The founding team consists of Qiyu Lu (technology), Rong Zhao (UI/UX design), Chenye Shen (operations), and Changhao Liao (operations), combining expertise in computer science, AI, and finance.
