TournIQ: Smart Tourniquet for Real-Time Pressure & Time Monitoring in Austere Environments

Project Description:

TournIQ is developing a smart tourniquet feedback system to improve the safety and effectiveness of hemorrhage control in emergency and trauma care. While tourniquets save lives, improper use—such as excessive pressure or prolonged application—can cause nerve damage, ischemia, and other preventable complications. Currently, responders rely on training, intuition, and rough time tracking, with little real-time feedback once a tourniquet is applied.
TournIQ integrates low-profile pressure sensing and timing features into a tourniquet-compatible device that delivers real-time guidance during use. Rather than replacing clinical judgment, it enhances it by helping users apply appropriate pressure, monitor duration, and make informed decisions in high-stress scenarios.
The system is designed for complex environments, including mass casualty incidents, wilderness rescue, combat medicine, and remote care. By enabling better monitoring in austere settings, TournIQ aims to improve outcomes, reduce complications, and support more effective hemorrhage management across emergency response contexts.
