Trackea: 3D Pediatric Trachea Reconstruction Technology

Project Description:

Laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) is a narrowing of the airway, often due to the growth of inflamed tissue in the trachea. This condition, if not treated properly, can lead to respiratory arrest or the patient requiring a tracheostomy tube indefinitely. Otolaryngologists must determine the ideal surgical procedure(s) to perform based on the geometry of the patient’s stenosis, which is unique to each patient. Current methods of evaluation such as endotracheal tubes and endoscopy fail to accurately measure metrics such as open cross-sectional area, length, and location of stenosis. Therefore, a method to accurately measure the entire trachea is needed.Trackea provides clinicians with informatics to make data-driven decisions about their treatment plan and monitor patient progression over time. Results demonstrate that the device is capable of measuring sub-millimeter changes in radius while moving through a trachea model and produce an accurate representation of the trachea.
