NeoDrain: Maximizing Urinary Diversion in Pediatric Patients

Project Description:

Urinary diversion is a procedure that reroutes urine flow when bladder function is compromised. Pediatric urinary diversion faces high complication rates stemming from stent leakage and dislodgement, risking postoperative complications and secondary procedures. Current pediatric stents are not standardized and inadequately address these challenges where anatomical constraints demand precise, secure solutions. Our team developed a novel dual-function ureteral stent with direct focus on minimizing leakage and maximizing urinary diversion. Prototype testing demonstrates improved sealing capabilities and migration resistance compared to conventional stents, addressing critical needs for reliable pediatric urological interventions.
