The Baltimore Streetcar Museum: Restoring and Renovating the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad Roundhouse

Project Description:

The Maryland & Pennsylvania Roundhouse once connected Baltimore, Maryland to York Pennsylvania and served commuter rails between Belair and Baltimore. Currently, the Roundhouse is treated as a storage unit for asphalt, salt, and other materials. This has corroded the structural members significantly. This project proposes a solution for the revitalization and restoration of the Roundhouse by raising the floor system and designing new members of the Roundhouse while keeping its historical elements. The purpose is to create a new museum space down the street from the current Baltimore Streetcar Museum. Additionally, the turntable adjacent to the roundhouse will be restored to create rail lines throughout the roundhouse for visitors.
