Associate Professor, Yanxun Xu was named the Joseph & Suzanne Jenniches Faculty Scholar in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, effective July 1, 2022.
Created in 2022, this title is awarded to outstanding junior faculty for their scholarship, research, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Xu’s research focuses on developing theory and methods for a broad range of problems, such as reinforcement learning, high-dimensional data analysis, nonparametric Bayesian statistics, and uncertainty quantification. She also develops new statistical and machine learning methods for various applications, including electronic health records, cancer genomics, early detection of Alzheimer’s disease, mental health in people with HIV, early-phase clinical trial designs, and material engineering.
