Zachary Gagnon, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. The award will support his work to develop inexpensive and portable biosensors for rapid, sensitive, and label-free multiplexed biomolecular detection.
Jin U. Kang, Jacob Suter Jammer Professor of Electrical Engineering and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Kang was selected for contributions to the research and development of fiber optic devices and biophotonics for medicine, including pioneering a real-time, ultrafast optical coherence tomography, 3-D imaging, and sensing systems for guided surgical intervention.
Benjamin Langmead, assistant professor of computer science, has been named an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in Computational & Evolutionary Molecular Biology. Langmead was selected for his work in the analysis of DNA sequencing data.
Tim Mueller, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Mueller’s award will support his research in “Predicting the Surface Structures of Crystalline Materials.”
Marc Ostermeier, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Ostermeier was recognized for his work on directed evolution approaches to protein engineering.
Suchi Saria, assistant professor of computer science, has received a Google Faculty Research Award to support her work in “Machine Learning for Knowledge Extraction from Electronic Medical Records.”
Benjamin Van Durme, assistant research professor of computer science, has received a Google Faculty Research Award to support his research in “Integrating Structured and Unstructured Evidence for Question Answering.”
Chao Wang, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, has been awarded a Young Investigator Research Program Grant from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Wang was awarded the grant for his work in tailoring magnetic nanomaterials for electromagnetic wave absorption.
