It’s Not Rocket Science

Winter 2013

The same neon colors and retro-graphics used to draw crowds to see James Brown at the Apollo Theater in the 1960s have been resurrected to remind Hopkins engineering students to trade in flip-flops for sensible, close-toed shoes; check Chipotle burritos at the door; and slip into lab coats and safety goggles when entering research laboratories.

In an innovative partnership, Johns Hopkins University and the Maryland Institute College of Art came together to design lab safety posters in the style made famous by former Baltimore printmaking icon Globe Posters. The posters list 12 crucial rules in block type. They are displayed in labs across the Homewood campus.
