Hi! My name is Amy McFarland. I was raised in Baltimore and spent a lot of time in Annapolis being with family and caring for my grandmother. I nannied for 15 years with families ranging from newborns to special needs adults. I am currently going to Towson University for my Family Studies and Human Services degree where l experienced working with families and individuals from all walks of life. I absolutely love my time as a Towson Tiger and growing the relationships I make along the way.

Before starting with JHU MCP, I worked at a few nonprofits. My main nonprofit, The National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA), is an international nonprofit professional association whose members represent federal, state, county and international Correctional Industry agencies. NCIA keeps the field up-to-date on reentry strategies, emerging technologies, best practices, as well as the many success stories of incarcerated individuals whose lives have been transformed by Correctional Industries. I also worked with a nonprofit where we helped educate minorities in Baltimore City on section 8, financial literacy in hopes they could turn around and purchase a home of their own. In my experiences, I learned how to grow my skills working alone and along with a team. I realized I am happier as a team player during the few years working alone at home during the pandemic. I strive for social interaction; so, I am so excited to get to know each and every one of you in the Whiting School of Engineering, and more specifically, the MCP!

I am so happy to continue my career here at JHU and I cannot wait to use what I have learned from my degree and previous job experiences to help take this department to the next level. I am looking forward to not only working alongside you, but also learning from you all who have been in the Materials Characterization game for a while.
