Intersession 2017: Optics Every Day

This course aims to explore how light is used in our everyday world. We will explore the basic physical properties of light and why it is integral in modern technology in a wide variety of applications from medicine and the internet to climate change. Background in physics is suggested but not required. Each lecture consists of an hour long presentation followed by 1 Hr group experiments.

As part of this course we will visit Dr. Xingde Li’s lab at Hopkins medical campus. We will also go on a tour of the Hopkins space telescope institute. The tour will end at the Morris W. Offit Telescope where we will learn about the reflective telescope operated by the Maryland Space Grant Observatory.
