Policies

Safety

  • All users of the MCP will need to take the DMSE safety training as well as Laboratory Safety/ Biosafety Level I & II before receiving traning and access to any MCP instrument.
  • No food or drink is allowed in any lab room. Only exception is water in a sealed container that is kept away from the instrument.

Use the iLab scheduling system

  • Users must reserve a session (at least one hour) in advance, sign in through the kiosk to start their sessions and sign out to end them.
  • Using equipment without signing in, or attempting to circumvent the interlocks can result in removal of access and/or disciplinary action
  • Users may start “walkup” sessions (with no advance reservation) if the equipment is not otherwise reserved.
  • Using the equipment without signing into iLabs is stealing from the MCP which is grounds for recinding instrument perimissions.

Share the instruments

  • No more than 2 prime time sessions (8am-8pm, Mon-Fri) may be reserved in advance
  • No limit on weekend and non-prime time sessions (8pm-8am)
  • No limit on “walkup” sessions.
  • User who utilizes less than 50% of their original reservation may be charged up to 50% of same.

Cancellations and changes

  • Cancellations and changes must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled session start time.
  • Cancellations less than 24 hours are treated as no-shows if the time slot is not subsequently claimed by another user.
  • The MCP may charge no-shows a 2 hour fee or up to the scheduled duration.
  • Users can contact Lab Managers for extenuating circumstances and equipment malfunctions to waive the charge
