[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Baltimore, located in the state of Maryland on the east coast, is a vibrant and historic city with a unique cultural identity. Known as “Charm City,” Baltimore is home to a diverse population and a thriving arts and music scene. Students at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore have access to world-class museums, galleries, and performance venues, as well as a wealth of dining options, shops and regular farmers markets and festivals. The city is also rich in history, with landmarks like Fort McHenry, the birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner, and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, which tells the story of the nation’s first railroad. Additionally, Baltimore offers ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, boating, and cycling along the Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore is a city of contrasts; steel and glass skyscrapers that dominate the commercial district are only a short walk from residential neighborhoods that have maintained a small-town charm.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Baltimore offers a rich cultural diet. Its symphony orchestra performs at the Meyerhof and the Peabody Conservatory of Music also hosts a concert series, as do several local universities. The city supports many educational and cultural institutions including the\u202f<\/span>Maryland Science Center<\/span><\/a>,\u202f<\/span>Center Stage<\/span><\/a>, the\u202f<\/span>Walters Art Museum<\/span><\/a>, the<\/span>\u202fVisionary Art Museum<\/span><\/a>, the\u202f<\/span>Reginald F. The Baltimore City neighborhood immediately surrounding the Homewood campus is called Charles Village. There are lots of other proximal neighborhoods in which students may consider living: Hampden, Waverly, and Remington \u2013 just to name a few.
