Partnering for Good
At Johns Hopkins Engineering, we partner with organizations that share our passion for advancing technology, improving human health, and building a more resilient world.
There are two primary ways for industry partners to leverage the resources, talent, and spirit of discovery at Hopkins Engineering: sponsored research and student design projects.
Sponsored and Collaborative Research
With more than 200 faculty members, 22 research centers, and a global network, Hopkins Engineering is an ideal partner for R&D, talent development, or entrepreneurial ventures.
Mutually beneficial research collaboration and sponsorship examples might include:
- Research and exploratory development
- Clinical trials
- Individual sponsored projects
- Master research agreements
- Doctoral or postdoctoral fellowships
- Technology licensing
- Research awards
Student Design Projects
Industry-sponsored student design is a hallmark of the Hopkins Engineering experience. Real-world business challenges fuel the discovery process for aspiring engineers, and lead to successful, implementable solutions for our partners.
Challenge, Presented.
As a student design or senior capstone project sponsor, you will present your student team with a design challenge and:
- Funding for supplies and materials
- Access to resources
- Technical point of contact(s)
Students put engineering theory into practice, while gaining valuable professional skills such as communication, budgeting, and time management. Client interaction is part of that, so expect regular progress reports from your team.
Problem, Solved.
At our annual Design Day, we showcase the ingenuity, innovation, and skill our student teams bring to their industry clients. Recent work included:
- Developed a test rig for Stanley Black & Decker that allows snowblowers to be tested, objectively, without snow
- Added vision systems to forklifts to augment driver awareness for Blind Industries & Services of Maryland
- Designed a custom camera stabilization testing system for Bosch Security Systems
- Tested autonomous decoy vehicles for the Army Research Lab
