Al, Cu will be deposited on glass substrates and multiaxial stress will be applied through 4-point bending. Candidates should have significant experience with film deposition techniques, EBSD methods, transmission electron microscopy methods, and related instrumentation. The postdoctoral associate will be advised by\u00a0 Prof.Papanikolaou \u2014 in addition, there will be significant technical support and guidance from Professor Kevin Hemker and his group. A Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline is required.\u00a0 The position will be available starting September 1, 2015.\u00a0 The initial appointment duration is 1 year, with the possibility of support beyond that term (by 2 years) depending on well pre-defined accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Postdoctoral Position in: Discrete dislocation plasticity and statistical mechanics of abrupt mechanical deformation<\/p>\n<p>This position will focus primarily on the code development and computation for dislocation systems in two and three dimensions for the simulation of crystal nanoindentation. Other projects on applications of statistical mechanics in different contexts may be pursued as well.
