Who We Are<\/h2>\n

The Center for Educational Outreach has a breadth and depth of backgrounds that made us the team we are today \u2013 passionate about STEM education.<\/p>\n

Full-Time Staff<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Margaret Hart<\/strong> is the Interim Executive Director <\/em>working closely with student groups and faculty engaged in community outreach and she oversees our MATH Program and our robotics and Science Olympiad mentoring efforts. Margaret has a bachelor\u2019s degree in Astronomy from Boston University and a master\u2019s in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard. Prior to joining Hopkins in 2012, she worked as a software test engineer, ran an outreach program at the MIT Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Space Research, and taught physics, astronomy and engineering in Cambridge, MA as well as locally in Baltimore City Public Schools. One of her passions is photography which she has taught to middle and high school students.<\/p>\n

Dr. Alexis Daniels, EdD<\/strong>\u00a0is the Assistant Director of Research and Evaluation. <\/em>Alexis has a B.A. in Anthropology and Community Health and a M.S. in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University, and a doctorate in entrepreneurial leadership in education from Johns Hopkins\u2019 School of Education. She is a multi-disciplinary educator, program designer, and applied researcher. She has managed enrichment programs, strategic initiatives, and curriculum development at Acera: The MA School of Science, Creativity, and Leadership and served as Academic Dean at the Center for Talented Youth in Baltimore. She has served as a reviewer for NSF proposals and presented engineering outreach findings nationally and internationally. She oversees WISE, SABES, and BOAST\/Project X and evaluation of CEO’s portfolio of programs. She also supports faculty broader outreach, develops grant proposals, and supervises research assistants.<\/p>\n

Adrienne Bantum\u00a0<\/strong>is the Budget Analyst<\/em>. Adrienne joined JHU in August\u00a02016 to provide financial and budgetary support for the team. Prior to joining CEO, she worked for CurePSP, a non-profit organization, as the Accounting Manager where she was responsible for the day-to-day financial activities.<\/p>\n

Artelia Davis<\/strong> is the Compliance and Operations Program Administrator<\/em>. Artelia holds a M.A. in Non-Profit Management from Notre Dame of Maryland University and a B.A. in International Studies from Towson University in Maryland. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, she worked as the Assistant Director of Human Resources at Maryland Legal Aid, managing HR functions and supporting overall strategic plans and change management, and functional director of HR at U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, directing HR and operations services, risk management, and compliance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kahea Chai<\/strong> is the Math Acceleration Tutoring with Hopkins (MATH) Site Coordinator<\/em>. Kahea has a B.A. in Natural Sciences from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining us as a full-time staff, she was a student worker with our Center, most recently as the Evaluation and Training Intern, while also assisting with Hopkins Robotics Cup, WISE, Barclay STEM Expo, and Barclay campus visits. Over the last five years, she spent time mentoring in Baltimore through the Charm City STEM League, a JHU student-led mentoring program supporting Baltimore City Science Olympiad participants, acting as Invitational Director, and President.<\/p>\n

Katie James<\/strong> is the MATH Program Administrator<\/em>. She has a B.S. in Education, a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Frostburg State University as well as her Administration and Supervision endorsement from Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Katie started her career as a Science Teacher, went on to become a district-level Science Instructional Coach and then a K-12 STEM Director for Allegany County Public Schools. She delivered STEM professional development and instructional strategies with MSDE for the Educator Effectiveness Academies statewide to administrators and educators. She worked remotely for international Global Personalized Academics as a Professional Development Specialist. In Baltimore, MD she worked for Baltimore County Public Schools as a Middle School Science teacher and then a Staff Development Teacher, a STEM Specialist at iFly Indoor Skydiving, and a Professor of Undergraduate and Graduate STEM courses and Supervisor of pre-service teaching candidates at Loyola University Maryland. Katie has worked in previous partnerships with Baltimore City Public Schools to support STEM teaching and learning, small group tutoring, and equity outreach.<\/p>\n

Lataska Ross<\/strong> is the Senior Administrative Coordinator<\/em>. She joined JHU in December 2023 and has over ten years of experience in administrative roles within public health organizations supporting teams and management. Prior to joining CEO, she supported the Dean\u2019s Office at the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health.<\/p>\n

Amanda Valledor<\/strong> is the CCSL Program Administrator<\/em> overseeing the Charm City STEM League (CCSL) program. Amanda co-founded CCSL while pursing her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and served as a near-peer mentor with CCSL for 2 years. After graduation, she completed two years of AmeriCorps service in a 4th grade classroom with City Year New Hampshire and worked as a curriculum coordinator at the Museum of Science in Boston where she developed hands-on STEM activities, taught engineering and computer science summer courses, and supported the Overnight Program for students and scouts in grades 1-8. She retuned to JHU in December 2020 as a full time staff member to support CCSL’s continued expansion. Amanda also serves as the advisor for the student-led <\/span>Maryland Science Olympiad at JHU <\/em>collegiate alumni chapter on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jamila Rimmer <\/strong>has transitioned from her previous role as the Program Specialist to the STEM Outreach Project Analyst for the Charm City STEM League (CCSL). She brings over 25 years of experience in education, having taught middle and high school mathematics in Philadelphia, PA. Beyond the classroom, Jamila served as Director and Chief Academic Officer at Project Forward Leap, a nonprofit organization that collaborated with school districts across Pennsylvania to provide STEM enrichment programs for middle and high school students.<\/p>\n

Jamila holds a B.S. in Mathematics Education from Temple University, an M.S. in Nonprofit Management from Eastern University, and an Ed.S. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development from Walden University. Now based in Maryland, Jamila is dedicated to expanding access to meaningful STEM learning experiences for students in Baltimore City Schools.<\/p>\n

Pr<\/strong>iscilla DeRosa <\/strong>is the Instructional Coach for Project X. She holds a B.A. in Mathematics\u00a0from Messiah University and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Space Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins’ Whiting School of Engineering.\u00a0 Priscilla divides her time between instructional coaching for Project X and providing spacecraft alignment support for NASA \/ JHU-APL missions such as Parker Solar Probe, Europa Clipper, DART, IMAP, and Dragonfly.\u00a0 As a long-time high school math tutor, HCPSS H\/H math teacher, former classroom teacher, and recent Project X instructor, she brings a passion for seeing students succeed in STEM education.<\/p>\n

Jaracus Copes<\/strong> is the SABES Instructional Coach<\/em>. Dr. Copes holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration, K-12 from Delaware State University, an M.A. in Educational Entrepreneurship from University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Education from Johns Hopkins University, an M.A. in Nonprofit Management from Eastern University, and a B.S. in Chemistry from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Along his role at SABES, Dr. Copes is the President\/CEO of The Applied Learning Academy, Inc. Previously, he was a STEM Instructional Designer with JHU Applied Physics Laboratory.<\/p>\n
