Civil’s Schafer receives 2015 Shortridge Hardesty Award
Benjamin W. Schafer, professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering, on being chosen by the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineering Institute to receive the 2015 Shortridge Hardesty Award.
The award is given annually in recognition of substantial contributions in applying the fundamental results of research to the solution of practical engineering problems in the field of structural stability.
Schafer was chosen for important contributions in the development of the Direct Strength Method as well as open source software that considers interactions between local, global and distortional modes of buckling in thin-walled structures.
He will accept the award at the Structures Congress Conference in Portland, Oregon in April.
