{"id":7199,"date":"2015-07-06T12:21:19","date_gmt":"2015-07-06T16:21:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/materials\/?p=7199"},"modified":"2015-07-06T12:21:19","modified_gmt":"2015-07-06T16:21:19","slug":"materials-science-discovery-awards","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/materials\/news\/materials-science-discovery-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Materials Science Researchers Receive JH Discovery Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Faculty researchers in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering are among the recipients of the inaugural Johns Hopkins Discovery Awards. <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/materials\/faculty\/hai-quan-mao\/\">Prof. Hai-Quan Mao<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/materials\/faculty\/patricia-mcguiggan\/\">Dr. Patricia McGuiggan<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/materials\/faculty\/peter-c-searson\/\">Prof. Peter Searson <\/a>will join cross-divisional research teams to fuel important discoveries and solve global challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The following research projects will be supported through this awards program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Engineering Artificial Lymph Nodes for Cancer Immunotherapy<\/strong><\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborators: Hai-Quan Mao (Whiting School of Engineering) and Jonathan Schneck (School of Medicine)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nanoparticle-based Therapeutic Strategy to Target an RNA-binding Protein Termed TDP-43 in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborators: Hai-Quan Mao (Whiting School of Engineering) and Philip Wong (School of Medicine)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reverse Engineering Ancient Ceramics<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborators: Patricia McGuiggan (Whiting School of Engineering) and Sanchita Balachandran (Krieger School of Arts &amp; Sciences)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Human Performance: Role of Acute Exercise in Enhancing Cognitive Function<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborators: Peter Searson (Whiting School of Engineering), Howard Egeth (Krieger School of Arts &amp; Sciences), and Kerry Stewart (School of Medicine)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Discovery Awards program is part of a $15 million commitment to cross-university, faculty-led research over three years.
