Oses\u2019 and Bregman\u2019s proposal\u2014\u201cADD-H2: AI-Driven Discovery of High-Entropy H2 Generators\u201d\u2014 was one of four chosen for this year\u2019s grant cycle, which split $3.75 million between each recipient.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe saw an opportunity in hydrogen since that&#8217;s where the energy market is headed in the next 25 years,\u201d says Oses. \u201cHydrogen is incredibly abundant in the universe, but it&#8217;s always attached to something. If we can split it off into pure form and contain it well, we can use it as fuel for cars, houses, and more.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The researchers aim to make hydrogen production more commercially viable.\u00a0 Currently, separating hydrogen from water (H<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">O) is challenging and requires electrolysis, which uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The team is exploring a different method to separate hydrogen without using electricity.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe want to split hydrogen off from water using only heat, so there\u2019s no longer a need for fossil fuels,\u201d says Oses. \u201cTo do this, <span class=\"ui-provider a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z ab ac ae af ag ah ai aj ak\" dir=\"ltr\">we need to develop a new type of heat catalyst that can perform the reaction at lower temperatures<\/span>. We\u2019ll be using AI to discover what works and how to optimize this process.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Oses will use computer simulations to predict what will happen with water and heat in a reactor.
