Cristina DeJong is a 2023 bachelor’s graduate in materials science and engineering. Read her career update and advice for recent graduates below.<\/em><\/p>\n

What have you been up to since graduation? How did your experience at Hopkins inspire you to pursue this path? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since graduating in 2023, I have been working for Schneider Electric<\/a> in a rotational program – the idea is you have a different role each year for 3 years to get a broader understanding of the company. I first heard about the program from another MatSci alumna! However, I’m going to be leaving to start my master’s in the fall – a decision which again has been influenced by my experience at Hopkins, as I was involved in research as well as multiple design teams that led me to where I am now. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you miss about your time at JHU MatSci? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I miss the community of MatSci! It’s amazing to be part of such a close-knit group and have the support network of peers and professors. I made a lot of close friends through the program as well as valuable connections in my field, and I know even years down the line, I can always reach out to anyone from the department!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have any advice for 2024 graduates? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

You don’t have to have everything figured out right away – and you can always change your mind! I know especially at Hopkins it’s easy to get wrapped up in having everything lined up immediately for post-grad: jobs, grad school, etc.\u2026 but I’m changing my mind a year later about what I thought I wanted to pursue, and the experience I’ve had has been extremely valuable anyway.
