The Hopkins Engineering Applications & Research Tutorials (HEART) program<\/a> allows undergraduate students to participate in research and its societal applications through courses taught by advanced graduate students. The courses require no prerequisites and the class size is kept small to ensure students have ample opportunity to communicate with the instructor and their fellow students.<\/p>\n

This semester, Fozia Ahmed<\/a> and Sarah Kim <\/a>will be teaching courses as part of the HEART program. Both PhD candidates work with Dr. Kalina Hristova in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Fozia’s course, titled Techniques to Study Biomolecules<\/em>, introduces students to the field of biomolecules with a goal of highlighting current techniques used to study various biomolecules. Fozia, who received her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins in Biotechnology, teaches her course on Monday and Tuesday, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

Sarah Kim’s course, Life: A Matter of Fat, will examine the chemistry, biology, and physics lipids in health, medicine, and engineering. Sarah Kim is a PhD candidate in the Program of Molecular Biophysics. She received her undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry from Cornell University. Her course is held on Wednesday and Thursday, from 8 to 9:45 p.m.<\/p>\n
