Working in a lab in the Materials Science Department helped me discover a love of research and build skills both in performing experiments and presenting results.
At Hopkins I found supportive and responsible supervisors, distinguished professors, helpful and efficient staff, and excellent students with diverse backgrounds and personalities.
As a graduate student I have access to the many cutting edge research facilities that Hopkins provides. While having all the facilities of a large university, the department is also small enough to provide a very personal setting.
Not only does the Materials Science Department provide us with valuable lab experience and exciting travel opportunities to conferences in California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Czech Republic, it also contains a very close knit group of people that genuinely care and support one another making for a much more enjoyable graduate experience.
The work in both lab and theater complemented each other very well, and in both settings I was able to see the practical applications of what we were learning in class.
Working at Johns Hopkins University has been a wonderful experience. What I love about Johns Hopkins is the cooperation between researchers and departments to make high-impact, cross-disciplinary science happen. I am immersed in a community where everyone around me works on exciting research that truly makes a difference.
I have particularly appreciated the streamlined nature of entering a research group and building a mentor-student relationship, the independence and confidence I experienced applying my knowledge of materials science, and the warm, family-like nature of the lab groups.
