Diversity and Inclusion

DMSE Diversity and Inclusion Committee

This committee assesses, documents, develops, and coordinates departmental policies and activities focused on issues related to diversity and inclusion. It serves in an advisory role to the department Chair and makes recommendations to the Chair for consideration by the faculty. The committee is led by the Diversity Champion who is a member of the WSE Diversity Champions Committee. The Diversity Advocate for the department is a member of the committee and is responsible for monitoring and documenting diversity efforts related to faculty hiring. Other committee members include at least one staff member along with graduate students representing both the M.S. and Ph.D. programs.

A new opportunity is available to prospective PhD students from the Passport to Future Technology Leadership (PFTL) program, led by Professor Rebecca Schulman in Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Darlene Saporu, Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. JHU’s new PFTL program is providing URM PhD students interested in industry science and engineering-related careers with professional development opportunities, mentoring and internships.
