Well, today&#8217;s concern is the bioaccumulation of these heavy metals in the blood and tissue of the world&#8217;s fish and marine mammals.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/magazine-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/magazine-summer2012-dolphin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-921 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/magazine-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/magazine-summer2012-dolphin-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"dolphin\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/magazine-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/magazine-summer2012-dolphin-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/magazine-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/magazine-summer2012-dolphin.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nTo better understand this problem, Bouwer, the Abel Wolman Professor of Environmental Engineering and chair of the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering, and his colleague, Yong-Seok Hong, completed a study with the <a title=\"national Aquarium\" href=\"http:\/\/aqua.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Aquarium, Baltimore<\/a> of the diets of captive and wild bottlenose dolphins.<\/p>\n<p>Their results: Captive dolphins had lower methylmercury concentrations in their blood than their wild counterparts<\/p>\n<p>living off the Florida and South Carolina coasts.
