Developed by a team led by <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/faculty\/tza-huei-jeff-wang\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tza-Huei \u201cJeff\u201d Wang<\/a>, the Louis M. Sardella Professor in <a href=\"https:\/\/me.jhu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mechanical Engineering<\/a> and member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/inbt.jhu.edu\/\">Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology<\/a>, this robotic platform rapidly screens thousands of antibiotic mixtures, identifying those with the most potent punches against stubborn superbugs.<\/p>\n<p>In experiments, RoboDrop discovered a three-drug cocktail that eliminated an E. coli strain, even at concentrations where individual antibiotics failed. It precisely prints complex droplet arrangements onto Petri dishes using samples 20,000 times smaller than a teardrop. Customized software also lets it run experiments autonomously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe envision this driving the development of new treatment strategies and the optimization of existing antibiotics, turning the tide against superbugs and saving countless lives threatened by antimicrobial resistance worldwide,\u201d says collaborator Fangchi Shao, a doctoral candidate at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/som\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School of Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Turning the Tide Against Superbugs&#8217; Calling all superbug slayers!
