Please navigate through the facilities below.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Emulsification of oil by mechanical mixing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0It is commonly believed that emulsification of oil slicks after a couple of days renders\u00a0 the use of dispersant\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/lefd\/emulsification-of-oil-by-mechanical-mixing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Emulsification of oil by breaking waves<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Complementing the study of emulsification by mechanical mixing, our laboratory\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/lefd\/emulsification-of-oil-by-breaking-waves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Large Scale Plume<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\">Oil and methane were ejected from the Macondo well blowout and formed a rising plume. <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/lefd\/large-scale-plume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Shear Layer<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\">A jet or plume of oil released in the ocean will experience shear at its boundaries as it moves through the water. If the shear is great enough, the interface will become unstable, and mixing of water and oil will occur. <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/lefd\/shear-layer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Towing Tank<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\">Subsea oil well blowouts, such as the IXTOC I and <em>Deepwater Horizon<\/em> accidents, can cause extensive environmental, economic, and public health damage. The magnitude and type of damage largely depends on the fate of the discharged oil. <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/lefd\/towing-tank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Turbulence Tank<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\">Oil droplets in the ocean will experience turbulence.
