Silvio Moreira Amir is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Language and Speech Processing. His research focuses on developing natural language processing and machine learning models for inferences over subjective social media. He is also interested in using machine learning and data science for applications that have positive social, humanitarian, or personal impact. He is inspired by real-world problems with applications for public health research and the social sciences.
Amir earned his Licenciate in Computer Science and his Master in Software Engineering at Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa; and his PhD in Information Systems and Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa.
