Dean Schlesinger will be joined by featured faculty guest speaker, Mark Dredze. Dr. Dredze is internationally recognized for his research that focuses on the applications of artificial intelligence and natural language processing to inform how social media is used to respond to major public health events. One of the founders of this emerging field, he develops machine learning and natural language processing tools to gain insights and examine issues related to vaccine refusal, suicide prevention, substance abuse and overdose, the Zika virus, and the spread of influenza.
This event is part of a larger series of annual Dean’s networking events designed to help the Whiting School of Engineering build a stronger alumni network and establish a new sense of tradition in the areas where we have the largest alumni populations. Due to the virtual nature of this event, we are pleased to open it up to members of the Engineering community throughout the California area.
