Your advisor is also your primary source of information with regard to the curriculum. They will aid you in your selection of technical and non-technical electives, as well as provide general advice about careers and graduate school in electrical and computer engineering.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-560058 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/RWK3271-scaled-1-300x200.jpeg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/RWK3271-scaled-1-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/RWK3271-scaled-1.jpeg 400w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Learn more about your relationship with your advisor below, and discover the steps you can take to ensure you take full advantage of the dynamic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Prior to, and as a condition for enrollment in classes each semester, you will meet with your academic advisor. Before meeting with your advisor, you should\u2026<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Take a look at the Degree Checklist Forms provided below. This form provides all key information regarding the engineering degree and should be studied closely by students.<\/li>\n<li>Be sure that you are using the appropriate form based on the year you began at JHU as the degree requirements have changed over the last couple of years.<\/li>\n<li>Using the Degree Checklist Form as a guide, develop a preliminary plan of classes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>During the meeting with your advisor\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Your preliminary plan of classes will be reviewed and potentially modified.<\/li>\n<li>Your progress towards degree will be reviewed using the online degree audit system in SIS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>After meeting with you, your advisor will\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Record that the meeting was conducted and then \u201crelease your hold\u201d on SIS so that you may complete your online registration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Speaking of \u201creleasing your hold\u201d on SIS\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Students should be aware that no faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering may release a hold on SIS unless they have had a face-to-face discussion with the student regarding course planning and the progress towards their degree as represented in the Degree Checklist Form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>A couple more notes\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Your advisor is the only person who may initiate<span> <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/livejohnshopkins-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/seisenb9_jh_edu\/EQ1TzbLGyz5PulW4jaPjrT0BEc7CQA4Xlo7MQbiWQbhvCQ?e=AKatTQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">waivers<\/a><\/strong>. Waivers must be approved by your advisor, as well as the Department and\/or the Engineering School as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>It is useful to also meet with the engineering school-wide academic advisors. These professional staff advisors, unlike your academic advisors, are more connected to some of the broader school services available for health and wellness, tutoring, extra-curricular programs outside of the department, and direct help with the registrar. Additional information is available at<span> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/advising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WSE Engineering Academic Advising.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Tutoring<\/h4>\n<p>You can get additional academic support by using the following resources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutoring is available through<span> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/advising.jhu.edu\/tutoring-mentoring\/peer-led-team-learning-pilot\/\">PILOT (Peer-led Team Learning)<\/a> in Calculus II, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations &amp; Applications, and Physics I &amp; II, among several other classes.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/advising.jhu.edu\/tutoring-mentoring\/learning-den-tutoring-services\/\">Learning Den Tutoring Services<\/a> can assist with classes in all areas, from Engineering to Humanities. A study consultant can help you in a number of areas, including study skills, time management, test preparation, and more!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/writingcenter\/\">The Writing Center<\/a> offers undergraduate and graduate students free, individual conferences with experienced tutors, all of whom are trained to consult on written work.
