On Tuesday, April 14,\u00a0attendees\u00a0gathered at the Glass Pavilion on the Homewood campus to honor and\u00a0highlight\u00a0the work of women in the\u00a0rapidly growing\u00a0field of\u00a0artificial intelligence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The third annual\u00a0<\/span>Celebrating Women in Data Science and AI Symposium, sponsored by the Data Science and AI Institute,\u00a0<\/span>NSF NRT: AI-Driven Advances in Microelectronics<\/span><\/a>, and the\u00a0<\/span>Institute for Data-Intensive Engineering and Science (IDIES), <\/span><\/a>drew a record number of attendees for a full day of speakers, panel discussions, poster presentations, and networking focused on the contributions and future of women working with AI.<\/span><\/p>\n

Paulette Clancy<\/span><\/a>, Edward J. Schaefer Professor in Engineering\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Department\u00a0of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and\u00a0research\u00a0director of\u00a0discovery and\u00a0inquiry\u00a0at\u00a0the Data Science and AI Institute, served as\u00a0emcee and moderated\u00a0both the\u00a0morning and afternoon panels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The morning\u00a0panel, \u201cExperiences\u00a0of Women in AI,\u201d featured\u00a0Avanti Athreya<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics,\u00a0Zih-Yun \u201cSarah\u201d Chiu<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0the Department of Computer Science,\u00a0Suchi Saria<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0the Department of Computer Science,\u00a0Laixi Shi<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering,\u00a0and\u00a0Mateo D\u00edaz<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0the Department of\u00a0Applied Mathematics\u00a0and Statistics.<\/p>\n
