{"id":577705,"date":"2026-02-20T16:25:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T21:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/?post_type=news&#038;p=577705"},"modified":"2026-03-06T14:05:00","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T19:05:00","slug":"doe-funded-lights-project-helps-states-fast-track-grid-capacity","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/news\/doe-funded-lights-project-helps-states-fast-track-grid-capacity\/","title":{"rendered":"DOE-Funded LIGHTS Project Helps States Fast-Track Grid Capacity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As electricity demand surges across the United States, a Johns Hopkins University initiative is helping states move faster\u2014and more affordably\u2014to expand grid capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The project, known as Leadership in Grid Innovations for High-voltage Transmission for States (LIGHTS), recently received funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/oe\/office-electricity\">U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s Office of Electricity<\/a> through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/oe\/articles\/energy-department-awards-25m-accelerate-transmission-lower-energy-costs-and-maintain-0\">Transmission Acceleration Grants<\/a> program.
