This behavior is further studied to ascertain the impact the warming microbes have on the global climate, as a whole. Assistant professor Susanna Thon&#8217;s research group collaborated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jhsph.edu\/faculty\/directory\/profile\/3126\/arturo-casadevall\">Arturo Casadevall<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/research.jhu.edu\/bloomberg-distinguished-professorships\/\">Bloomberg Distinguished Professor<\/a> and chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jhsph.edu\/departments\/w-harry-feinstone-department-of-molecular-microbiology-and-immunology\/\">Molecular Microbiology and Immunology<\/a> at the Bloomberg School. The scientists gathered various strains of pigmented yeast that were found in various geological locations to determine how much heat the yeast generated. This study is the first to find the practice of cold-blooded animals using the sun to heat up and survive in microorganisms.<\/p>\n<p>Casadevall recently detailed the group&#8217;s research findings in the Hub article, <a href=\"https:\/\/hub.jhu.edu\/2018\/08\/02\/microbes-darken-to-absorb-heat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Microbes go dark to stay warm in cooler climates<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-16292","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","news_categories-research"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
