{"id":14451,"date":"2018-01-25T09:34:29","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T14:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/?p=14451"},"modified":"2021-07-07T10:57:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T14:57:13","slug":"longtime-ece-collaborator-kim-strohbehn-passes-away-bone-cancer","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/ece\/news\/longtime-ece-collaborator-kim-strohbehn-passes-away-bone-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Longtime ECE collaborator Kim Strohbehn passes away from bone cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kim Strohbehn, who turned a childhood interest in the space program into a longtime career as a senior professional engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, died Sunday from bone cancer at Sinai Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The Ellicott City resident was 64.<\/p>\n<p>Recruited out of graduate school, Dr. Strohbehn joined APL in 1979, and spent his entire career there until his death. In addition to his work at APL, he was a research professor at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver his career at APL, Kim became an expert in digital and analog integrated circuit design,\u201d Mr. Mastandrea wrote in a profile of his colleague.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a key contributor to the Space Instrumentation Group at APL for the design and fabrication of state-of-the-art instrument electronics for space missions to study the earth, planets and the sun,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In 1995, Dr. Strohbehn was promoted to principal professional staff, the highest engineering level at APL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis accomplishments include over 58 major patents and publications. Kim truly enjoyed being challenged to solve complex engineering issues,\u201d Mr. Mastandrea wrote.<\/p>\n<p>At his death, Dr. Strohbehn was the lead engineer for detector electronics for NASA\u2019s Europa Clipper Mission.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/obituaries\/bs-md-ob-kim-strohbehn-20180117-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Excerpted from the Baltimore Sun.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-14451","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","news_categories-department-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
