Imaging platform will comprise a Two-photon Ultra-microscopy System and a Dual-channel Confocal Endomicroscope

007This MRI instrument proposal seeks to develop an ultralight biophotonic neuro-cellular imaging platform for elucidating brain activity in freely behaving animals. The instrument will be portable. The proposed imaging platform will comprise a Two-photon Ultra-microscopy System (including a Compact Tunable Ti:Sa Laser) and a Dual-channel Confocal Endomicroscope. The system will be capable of two-photon imaging through a sweeping optical fiber and of single photon wide field imaging through a coherent fiber bundle. The combined system will be capable of monitoring cellular/neuronal activity in vivo in a variety of physiological and pathological contexts (field of view up to 1mm, penetration depth: 350 micrometers, total weight of the probe head: 1.4g).
