{"id":5331,"date":"2025-05-20T12:52:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/doctor-of-engineering\/faculty\/mihaela-pertea\/"},"modified":"2025-05-20T12:52:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:52:01","slug":"mihaela-pertea","status":"publish","type":"people","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/doctor-of-engineering\/faculty\/mihaela-pertea\/","title":{"rendered":"Mihaela Pertea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bme.jhu.edu\/people\/faculty\/mihaela-pertea\/\">Mihaela Pertea<\/a> is an associate professor of biomedical engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering, an assistant professor of medicine in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and a member of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pertea\u2019s research interests include analyzing microbial genomes, computational tools for transcriptome reconstruction, computational gene modeling, and genome sequencing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2025, she was named an American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering Fellow. She earned a bachelor\u2019s degrees in computer science and psychology and a master\u2019s degree in computer science from the University of Bucharest in Romania. She also holds a master\u2019s of science degree in engineering from Johns Hopkins University, where she later completed a PhD in computer science.
