Through an enterprise agreement between OpenAI and JHU, we are pleased to provide ChatGPT Edu and OpenAI API Platform access to faculty and staff<\/strong> at Johns Hopkins University. This service is designed specifically to meet the unique requirements of higher education, providing robust data security, compliance, and enhanced generative AI capabilities tailored to faculty and staff needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before you request a paid JHU ChatGPT Edu account, we encourage you to first explore HopGPT<\/a>. This is available at no cost for anyone with a JHEDID. ChatGPT Edu is only needed for those requiring advanced platform capabilities of ChatGPT (e.g., Deep Research, Projects, Custom GPTs, Memory, Scheduling, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is ChatGPT Edu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ChatGPT Edu<\/a> is the enterprise version of ChatGPT but with advanced features and privacy controls specific to education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may use ChatGPT Edu for your work and studies, including information that contains personally identifiable information (PII) or student records protected under FERPA. Our institutional agreement with OpenAI covers this data and ensures it remains private and secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, do not enter Protected Health Information (PHI) or any detailed patient health data. While incidental mentions are covered by our agreement, ChatGPT Edu is not approved for clinical documentation or patient-care data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ChatGPT Edu Access<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Faculty and staff needing ChatGPT should use JHU ChatGPT Edu. Those currently using individual paid ChatGPT plans must migrate to ChatGPT Edu to maintain university compliance and to take advantage of these enhanced benefits. To request an account or initiate your transition, please fill out the following request form. You will need your Cost Center (or Internal Order number) to complete this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After submitting the form, you will receive an invitation to join the Johns Hopkins University ChatGPT Edu instance, accessible using your JHED email (jhedid@jh.edu) via SSO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI API Access<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI API Platform provides programmable access to state-of-the-art GPT models (text, code, and multimodal) so you can prototype, deploy, and scale AI features at JHU. Request access to obtain API credentials and guidance for compliant use with university data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
