CNN spoke with former Clark Scholar and current master&#8217;s student David Calvo (&#8217;24 CS) about the device, which was developed by engineers at the Czech Technical University and is now being used in combat situations.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, Calvo explains that the biggest challenge the students faced was developing a device that would not emit electromagnetic radiation, or in other words, a device that would alert NATO to an injured soldier&#8217;s location without alerting enemy combatants.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the video at CNN.com: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/tech\/2023\/02\/20\/digital-triage-assistant-soldiers-nato-sensors-orig-contd-zt.cnn\">https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/tech\/2023\/02\/20\/digital-triage-assistant-soldiers-nato-sensors-orig-contd-zt.cnn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CLE&#8217;s partnership with NATO began in the fall of 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/cle\/news\/the-cle-nato-innovation-hub-partnership\/\">when Johns Hopkins University became NATO&#8217;s first university partner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/cle\/academics\/undergraduate-studies\/a-james-clark-scholars-program\/\">A. James Clark Scholars program<\/a> was established in 2016 <span>through a $15 million investment in the Whiting School of Engineering from the A. James &amp; Alice B. Clark Foundation.
