He currently serves as associate editor for <em>ACS Sustainable Chemistry &amp; Engineering<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Hermans received the inaugural Robert Augustine award from the Organic Reaction Catalysis Society in 2017 and the Ipatieff Prize from the American Chemical Society in 2019. He was selected as a 2021 Alexander von Humboldt Professor but declined the offer to remain in the United States.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">In January 2014, Professor Hermans joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding a dual appointment in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He was co-founding editor-in-chief of <em>ChemistryEurope<\/em> (Wiley). He became assistant professor in spring 2008 at the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering of ETH Zurich in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Hermans obtained his PhD from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 2006.
