PhD Student Scholarships\/Fellowships

\n<\/strong>Announced by Johns Hopkins and Bloomberg Philanthropies in the spring of 2021, the Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative<\/a>\u00a0is an endowed fellowship program at Johns Hopkins for PhD students in STEM fields. It provides full tuition, stipend, and benefits while also providing targeted mentoring, networking, community, and professional development opportunities. Students who have attended eligible institutions, including historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), community colleges, and regional institutions in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia for undergraduate study, are eligible to apply.<\/li>\n
\n<\/strong>The Siebel Scholarship program was created by the Siebel Scholars Foundation to recognize exceptional students from the world\u2019s leading graduate schools, in areas that include bioengineering. JHU is one of only a few schools in the country selected to participate in this program and every year, five PhD candidates at Johns Hopkins are awarded this honor. An announcement from your academic administrator about the open application period usually happens in late May and all application materials typically are due to your department administrator in mid-June. If awarded, the scholarship goes into effect the following fall semester. More information about the program, including the nomination process and criteria can be found here.<\/a><\/li>\n
\n<\/strong>The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Diversity Scholarship is awarded to a newly-admitted PhD student who has overcome significant socioeconomic barriers and\/or is a first-generation graduate student. The recipient of the ChemBE Diversity Scholarship must remain in resident, full-time status and in good academic standing. If the recipient continues to meet this criteria, they will receive the scholarship each academic year until they graduate from the program. Incoming students cannot apply directly for the Diversity Scholarship. Rather, it is awarded to a particular student based on the recommendation of the ChemBE department head and the Chair and the ChemBE PhD Faculty Admissions Committee.
