{"id":46737,"date":"2024-03-28T12:55:03","date_gmt":"2024-03-28T16:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/chembe\/?post_type=news&#038;p=46737"},"modified":"2024-03-28T13:56:28","modified_gmt":"2024-03-28T17:56:28","slug":"womens-history-month-event-discusses-representation-in-academia","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/chembe\/news\/womens-history-month-event-discusses-representation-in-academia\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s History Month Event Discusses Representation in Academia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><span style=\"color: black;\">A joint event hosted by the AIChE ChemBE student chapter, the Society of Women Engineers, and the Committee of Diversity and Inclusion for Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering was held on March 25<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0to celebrate Women\u2019s History month. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><span style=\"color: black;\">Fifty students attended the event, where the panel of speakers discussed topics ranging from the progress that has been made in the representation of women in academia, as well as discussing further steps that need to be taken to facilitate progress towards equal representation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><span style=\"color: black;\">Eight speakers provided insight into the topics, five of whom represent the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, pictured on the right: (L-R) Yayuan Liu, Jamie Spangler, Ann Himelreich, Paulette Clancy, and Nagma Zerin. The varied insight and background of the panel allowed diverse dialogue on the topic. The panel discussion was followed by a networking dinner, at which the panelists continued the discussion in small groups with the attendees. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">\u201cIt is important to not only see how far the representation of women has come in academia, but also understand how we can continue to improve,\u201d said Clancy. \u201cHaving discussions like this foster the engagement needed to make those improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-46737","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","news_categories-faculty","news_categories-students"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
