{"id":42440,"date":"2022-10-04T14:02:31","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T18:02:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/chembe\/?post_type=news&#038;p=42440"},"modified":"2023-10-31T11:08:26","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T15:08:26","slug":"chembe-students-named-siebel-scholars","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/chembe\/news\/chembe-students-named-siebel-scholars\/","title":{"rendered":"Three ChemBE students named Siebel Scholars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three doctoral candidates in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering were named Siebel Scholars for 2023 on October 4. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siebelscholars.com\/scholar-profile\/3655\/\">Zachary Schneiderman,<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.siebelscholars.com\/scholar-profile\/3653\/\">Tatsat Banerjee<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siebelscholars.com\/scholar-profile\/3652\/\">Justin Lowenthal<\/a> were among five scholarship recipients from Johns Hopkins University. Schneiderman is part of the<a href=\"https:\/\/kokkolilab.wse.jhu.edu\/\"> Kokkoli lab<\/a>, where his work has centered on targeted drug and gene therapy delivery for the treatment of cancer using DNA nanotubes, liposomes, and lipid nanoparticles.\u00a0Banerjee, who is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.jh.edu\/piglesi1\/cscl\/\">Iglesias lab<\/a> in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the <a href=\"https:\/\/devreotes.johnshopkins.edu\/\">Devreotes lab<\/a> in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine\u2019s Department of Cell Biology, has focused his research on polarity in cell migration. Lowenthal is completing an MD-PhD and has focused his research on the <span>effects of oxygen on early cardiac development and on modeling the genetic heart disease arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, combining stem cell differentiation, three-dimensional platforms, and developmental biology techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The scholarship awards $35,000 for a student&#8217;s final year of graduate studies.
