O\u2019Connor Sustainable Energy Institute<\/a><span> (ROSEI)<\/span>. He is the U.S. director of the NSF Global Climate Center on <a href=\"https:\/\/energyinstitute.jhu.edu\/epics\/\">Electric Power Innovation for a Carbon-free Society<\/a>(<a href=\"https:\/\/energyinstitute.jhu.edu\/epics\/\">EPICS<\/a>), serves on ROSEI\u2019s Leadership Council, and is part of the Department of Energy Center of Excellence, also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/arrowosw.org\/\">ARROW<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Using multi-disciplinary methods in engineering, operations research, economics, and policy analysis, Dvorkin develops models and algorithms to assist society in accommodating challenges posed by emerging smart grid technologies, such as intermittent power generation, demand response, storage, smart appliances, and cyber-infrastructure. His research is funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, Energy Innovation LLC, the Electric Power Research Institute, the Maryland Energy Administration, the Maryland Department of the Environment, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Dvorkin was an assistant professor and Goddard Junior Faculty Fellow in the\u00a0Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering\u00a0at New York University\u2019s\u00a0Tandon School of Engineering,\u00a0with an affiliated appointment at NYU\u2019s\u00a0Center for Urban Science and Progress.<\/p>\n<p>Dvorkin received an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=1847285&amp;HistoricalAwards=false\">NSF CAREER Award<\/a>\u00a0to investigate small-scale electricity trading. He earned a \u201cBest Reviewer\u201d award for work on\u00a0<em>IEEE Transactions on Power Systems<\/em>,\u00a0<em>IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy,<\/em> and\u00a0<em>IEEE Transactions on Smart Grids<\/em>. Dvorkin also serves as an associate editor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieee-pes.org\/ieee-transactions-on-smart-grid\"><em>IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After being a graduate\u00a0student researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory\u2019s\u00a0Center for Nonlinear Studies, Dvorkin received his PhD from the University of Washington.
