{"id":11704,"date":"2017-11-17T10:19:03","date_gmt":"2017-11-17T15:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/case\/?p=11704"},"modified":"2021-06-25T16:44:35","modified_gmt":"2021-06-25T20:44:35","slug":"prof-michael-shields-gives-uncertainty-quantification-seminar-arl","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/case\/news\/prof-michael-shields-gives-uncertainty-quantification-seminar-arl\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Michael Shields Gives Uncertainty Quantification Seminar at ARL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/case\/faculty\/michael-d-shields\/\">Prof. Michael Shields<\/a> spoke to members of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in a seminar titled, &#8220;Data-informed, simulation-based uncertainty quantification in computational solid and structural mechanics.&#8221; The seminar included information on some recent advances in adaptive sampling for surrogate-based and Monte-Carlo based uncertainty quantification as well as a discussion about methods in Bayesian model-selection and parameter estimation to quantify imprecise probabilities. Prof. Shields is leader fo the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/jhusurg\/\">Shields Uncertainty Research Group<\/a> and has recently won the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/case\/2016\/03\/10\/prof-michael-shields-wins-office-of-naval-research-young-investigator-award\/\">Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.jhu.edu\/case\/2017\/01\/24\/michael-shields-nsf-career-award\/\">NSF CAREER Award<\/a> for is work in the field of uncertainty quantification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-11704","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","news_categories-department-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Prof. Michael Shields Gives Uncertainty Quantification Seminar at ARL - Department of Civil &amp;
