SUMMARY:Seminar: JHU Civil and Systems Engineering (CaSE) Faculty: Mechanics of Materials & Structures
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nJoin CaSE faculty as they present an overview of their research related to mechanics of materials and structural engineering. \nSpeaker Bios\nMichael Shields is an expert in probabilistic mechanics and uncertainty quantification\, focusing on developing computational methods to predict and analyze the reliability of complex engineered systems and materials. His research integrates advanced statistical techniques\, machine learning\, and computational modeling to address challenges in structural reliability\, material behavior\, and risk assessment. \nLori Graham-Brady’s research centers on stochastic mechanics and multiscale materials modeling to provide a fundamental understanding of the connections between material-scale uncertainties and the performance and reliability of structures. Her most recent work leverages machine learning tools to solve complex mechanics problems. \nSomdatta Goswami specializes in modeling and simulation of physical and biological systems. She uses scientific machine learning and AI to develop algorithms and architectures to address challenges in engineering\, physical\, and biological systems. Her work aims to provide real-time solution strategies for system learning\, prediction\, optimization\, and decision-making. \nSomnath Ghosh is known for his research in computational mechanics and materials science\, focusing on multiscale modeling of the behavior and performance of advanced materials and structures. His expertise includes finite element mthods\, microstructure-property relationships\, and the development of innovative simulation tools to predict material response. His work has had a significant impact the aerospace\, automotive\, and defense industries.
