New Materials

Materials Scientists understand the structure-property relationships of materials better than anyone! Rather than being called on by other engineering disciplines, materials scientists are suggesting new materials for new applications.

Metallic glasses are mixtures of metals that combine the properties of glass (like high strength), with the ductility of metal. This new class of materials is finding diverse applications like golf clubs and transformer cores.

Forests of carbon nanotubes only a few nanometers in diameter might be used in tomorrow’s display technologies.
