Research Strategy and Structure

Our research strategy is designed to achieve the vision articulated in the preceeding section by creating a family of sophisticated systems with the following characteristics:
  • The systems provide novel capabilities, with significant potential for a broad array of clinical applications in computer-integrated surgery.
  • The systems are based on a common infrastructure of standards, software, and devices, integrating the results of core research into readily adaptable, high-precision systems.
As a pathway toward this goal, we have identified specific, initial applications for these systems, both clinical and scientific, as a means of focusing our efforts, providing the basis for system evaluation, creating opportunities for developing new research aims, and identifying avenues for commercialization.
