  • Major Research Areas: Materials Science and Engineering: physical/chemical surface phenomena in solids, theory of dislocations, solid mechanics, environment-sensitive mechanical behavior of materials, control and applications (durability of catalysts, mineral binders, ceramics; liquid metal embrittlement, hard materials treatment, rock drilling, wear and lubrication); Colloid and Interface Science: surfactant's effects at various interfaces, stability of disperse systems (sols, emulsions, foams, aerosols), particles interaction and structure formation in disperse systems (adhesion, sintering, hydration, sol/gel transition), colloid-chemical principles and methods in environmental engineering. Prof. Shchukin teaches courses on Colloid Chemistry and Physical/Chemical Mechanics of Disperse Systems and Materials.
